The route for the 2010 NorCal AIDS Challenge will be a counterclockwise tour of the Central Valley, going through the foothills of the Sierras to the east and the Coast Range to the west.
On Day 1 (95 miles), we’ll be starting in Folsom and will spend half the day exploring the rolling terrain of the foothills near Lincoln, Loomis, and Auburn before finishing the day at Gridley in the heart of the Central Valley.
On Day 2 (90 miles), we’ll let each cyclist choose between two different 90-mile routes. Both options will take cyclists through the historic towns of Oroville and Durham before ending the day with a pleasant cruise along the banks of the Sacramento River and evening camp in Colusa. However, the more challenging option will also take cyclists up Table Mt., to add a steep climb, and 10 miles to the day. Cyclists looking for less of a challenge will ride around Table Mt., still enjoying some rolling hills around the Mountain’s base.
***Days 3 and 4 make up The Weekender***
Day 3 (85-miles), this route will start off flat and break away into some rolling hills and a long 7 mile climb out of the valley. From there, it’s a mostly-downhill ride along Cache Creek as it empties out into the Sacramento Valley. We’ll ride by the newly expanded Cache Creek Casino Resort before stopping for the night in Woodland.
Day 4 (50 miles) will be the final and easiest day of the Challenge – a flat 50 miles from Woodland to Winters to Davis and then back to Sacramento. |
