- How many miles will I be riding on the Weekender?
- Weekenders will be riding 140 miles of the 330-mile NCAC Route. The first day’s riding (NCAC Day 3) will be 90 scenic and challenging miles from Colusa to Woodland. The second day (NCAC Day 4) will be a flat 50 miles from Woodland to Winters, Davis, and then the Capitol Building in Sacramento.
- If I’m only riding for half of the NCAC, shouldn’t I only have to raise half of the money ($850)?
- The Weekender is designed for HIV/AIDS advocates and cyclists who aren’t able to commit to 4 full days of riding. If you’re worried about being able to meet the minimum fundraising requirement contact your Mentor or one of our fundraising specialists for help. Also, remember who you’re raising these funds for – friends, family, and loved ones infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Your commitment to the Challenge will be large, but their need is even larger.
- Can I join the NCAC on the morning of Day 3 (Sat 5/22) instead of on the evening of Day 2 (Fri 5/21)?
- No. The NCAC starts winding up each day at 4:30am, when the first crews start preparing for the day’s activities and the mass Cyclist start at 7:00am. There will simply not be enough time or person power to get everyone up, fed, packed, and on the road by 7:00am if we’re also checking in Weekender riders plus their baggage. By arriving the night before you’ll get a chance to meet the rest of the NCAC community, get settled, and be ready to ride out bright and early the next morning.
- Can I ride the first two days instead of the second two days? Or just one of the weekend days?
- No. The Weekender option is only available for both of the last two days of the NCAC – Saturday 5/22 and Sunday 5/23. Hence the name, “Weekender.”
- If I drive myself to Colusa, where do I park my car?
- Unfortunately, just like for the 4-day Cyclists there is no long term parking available in Colusa for Weekenders. You’ll have to arrange for a ride or carpool out to Colusa on Friday afternoon or evening. If you let us know ahead of time and arrive before 6pm, your driver will be able to have dinner with the NCAC community before heading home.
- Should I plan to come to Colusa High School even if I'm on the Princess Plan?
- Yes. For people new to the NCAC, the ‘Princess Plan’ refers to participants who choose to stay in local hotels each night rather than staying at the designated camping area. If you’re planning on being a Weekend Princess you still have to check in with the NCAC at Colusa High School on Friday Night before retiring to your castle.
